Interview & Photo Gallery: “Rosey Peach” by RAVS Single Release Show

Local DFW musician Ravs debuted her new single “Rosey Peach” at her weekly residency at Foxtrot in Dallas, TX. She was joined onstage by her backup band The Akrlx, with live guitar, saxophone, and trombone perfectly accompanying her stunning voice and rapping.

The song features her collaborators on the Arylx, at the very end of the night playing the song live for the first time and also sharing the recording version for the audience to hear hours before its release.

I sat down to discuss the new song with RAVS after her performance.

How does it feel to put out this new song since your last release of “The Heat” in 2022?

“It feels really really good. I think it's definitely hard as independent artists, [to] find the funds to do all these things. You have a vision for the way you want it to be, and it takes time, money. But more importantly, what I'm excited about is this is kind of a new sound that I'm putting out. It's more band oriented, live sound versus production and using singular producers to do all the music, but it's the full band playing all their parts, recording their parts. So I'm really excited. It's like the start of a whole new phase of music.

What really inspired you to create this song?

“Ive been sitting on this song so long, I wrote it back in 2020 when all those things were happening. Even the feelings of 2020 to now [are] very synonymous. Writing [the song] out was like really waking up to the world around you and truly understanding the idea that our reality isn’t really rosey peach. There’s always something hiding behind the curtain.

Why do you want to share this message through your music?

“The biggest reason why I started making music is I felt like I had a lot to say, and this is a way to channel my thoughts. The idea of potentially helping somebody along the way is obviously super important to me. What made me who I am today is just the fact that I was so enamored with conscious hip hop. Like, that just really put me on the path that I am today, so it's really hard not to have those elements in my writing. Going off with people like Nas and  A Tribe Called Quest, and then people in the newer age, so like Kendrick and J. Cole.
